High Temperature Resistant BMI Adhesives

The PX-300 adhesives are one-part systems based on bismaleimides, which can be applied without pre-mixing with other components. They are solvent-free and almost odourless during processing.

The viscosity of these adhesives depends on the modification type and reaches from highly viscous to medium viscous. The highly viscous types (e.g. PX-300) can be melted to liquids of low viscosity by heating to 70–120 °C while the types with medium viscosity are easily processable already at room temperature.

The curing of these adhesives is performed by heating them to 150 °C. Post-curing at 200 °C improves the properties in certain areas, especially in terms of temperature- and media resistance.

The cured BMI adhesives exhibit a number of interesting properties:

In contrast to the IPN adhesives the BMI adhesives exhibit higher temperature and media resistance. Moreover, their adhesive strength is on a lower level but it shows much smaller temperature dependence. These adhesives are especially suitable for applications with high long-term temperature influence and increased demands for media and chemicals resistance as well as hydrolysis resistance.

The PX-306 and PX-307 adhesives differ substantially from the other BMI adhesives. These products do not come as adhesive pastes but as adhesive films thus promoting very clean and precise adhesive bonding with very even adhesive layer thickness.
